According to Herts Fire and Rescue Service, the fumes had"caused some problems for staff" following the spill at around 10.35am today .
The trust said it would like to reassure the public it is working with the fire service to coordinate a response.It added that patients were not evacuated and there has been no disruption to A&E, which remains open. A spokesperson for Herts Fire and Rescue Service confirmed the immediate area was evacuated, and footage shows a section was cordoned off with several fire crews and police present.A spokesperson said:"Women in labour or requiring urgent care should still arrive as usual where they will be escorted into the Women’s and Children’s building.
“If you have a maternity, paediatric or ophthalmology appointment this afternoon, please assume it is going ahead but be prepared for a delay to your appointment time. “We would like to thank our staff, police and fire and rescue colleagues for their prompt and efficient response.”
