Over 540 conditions are supported through Adult Disability Payment and PIP.
The latest figures from Social Security Scotland show that by the end of January 2023, some 23,660 people across Scotland were receiving Adult Disability Payment . The new devolved benefit is replacing Personal Independence Payment and Disability Living Allowance for existing claimants aged under 65 on April 8, 2013.
January saw the nationwide number of claimants for these types of conditions rise to 1,206,838 - an increase of 40,143 from October. The number of people claiming for Musculoskeletal Conditions such as arthritis, joint, chronic or back pain and hip disorders increased by 24,493 to 1,036,908.Five most commonly recorded disabling conditions Psychiatric disorder - 37%Respiratory disease - 4%
What is PIP? PIP is a benefit which is gradually replacing DLA. If you need extra help because of an illness, disability or mental health condition you could be eligible for PIP. In addition to what we have outlined above if you get or need help with any of the following because of your condition, you should consider applying for PIP or ADP.DWP or Social Security Scotland will assess how difficult you find daily living and mobility tasks.
