Manchester City picked up their second win of the season by defeating Newcastle United 1-0 at the Etihad.
It's been a busy week for City who were in Athens on Wednesday lifting the Super Cup and were straight back into action as they welcomed a dangerous Newcastle to the Etihad. The match appeared to be a potential banana skin given City would be running on fumes and the Magpies won 5-1 last weekend but it didn't prove to be the case.
There was real clarity on the centre-back's whereabouts, though. It appears he will be leaving City following the accepted bid from Al Nassr after not being selected but there was no talk of an imminent move being the reason he wasn't in the squad. The celebrations continued after the victory as Guardiola made sure all his players showed their appreciation to supporters with a lap of honour to all four stands. The fans replied in turn with waves, applause and cheers.Ruben Dias was making his return to the team and his first appearance of the season after recovering from a concussion. He was straight back into the thick of it and was particularly unhappy with a nasty challenge from Anthony Gordon.
Guardiola revealed after the match that a young fan, sat next to the dugout, had made a comment asking the manager to make some substitutions. Guardiola caught the comment and pulled the fan up on it, gesturing to him to come into the technical area and make the subs himself if he thought he could do it better.
