A casualty was taken to hospital for treatment
Mercy crews raced to HMP Addiewell, near West Calder in West Lothian, after the alarm was raised at around 3.35pm on Wednesday. Emergency services were alerted to a fire within the prison.
Ambulance crews attended and a casualty was taken to hospital for treatment. Their condition is currently unknown. Fire crews quickly dispatched three fire appliances but fighters have now left the scene. Police say their enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances of the blaze. A Police Scotland spokesperson told the Record: “We were made aware of a fire within HMP Addiewell shortly after 3.35pm on Wednesday, May 3.
