Connor O'Neill reports from ringside at the M&S Bank Arena after Peter McGrail beat Fran Mendoza
Peter McGrail delivered on his promise to Everton supporters after he claimed the WBA continental super-bantamweight title with a points win over Fran Mendoza.
Mendoza had some decent moments early on in the fight, with the pick of his shots being a right hand that connected with McGrail during the opening round. However, from there, McGrail, who is trained by Paul Stevenson, dominated the bout and seemed to get better the more it went on. “I knew it was going to be a tough fight; he’s an undefeated fighter,” the Everton Red Triangle man said post-fight.
“He definitely woke me up in that first round, and I knew I had to stay switched on because otherwise it could have been an early night.
