Hog. Roast. Training. Centre 🐷
A decision on The Spitting Pig Company Ltd’s planning application to convert The Rookery in the town’s Pasturegate was deferred by councillors last month over concerns about smells and fumes. But Burnley Council’s development control committee on Thursday has been recommended to approve the scheme after further investigation.
After a debate last month the councillors decided to defer a decision while clarification was sought over whether any of the hog roasting taking place as part of the training might take place outside. The Burnley firm’s application says most of the cooking will take place inside the premises. A planning officer’s report says: “The applicant has confirmed that the cooking of hog roasts will take place, one a month, with a likely duration of eight hours, in the back garden. They will learn how to cook the hog roast as part of the programme of training and support. “Officers are satisfied that the roasting of the hogs taking place in the back garden once a month would not cause a significant detrimental impact on the amenity of the neighbours to warrant a refusal of the planning application. To mitigate any concerns a condition is proposed to ensure that hog roasting is restricted to being in the back garden , and how many roasts will take place per month.
