A change to the current traffic regulation order would see enforcement measures along George Street
Residents are being asked for their views on a public consultation of traffic safety measures in Corby. A change to the current traffic regulation order would see, if progressed, enforcement measures introduced along a section of George Street.
It was agreed in April that the current traffic regulation order would be replaced with one that would allow North Northamptonshire Council to enforce vehicle access restrictions, using CCTV. The plans would improve safety for pedestrians crossing the road by allowing only taxis, buses and cyclists to enter the main crossing section.
This would be between the hours of 8am to 6pm Monday through to Saturday. The move would also aim to improve the reliability of bus times. Cllr Matt Binley, North Northamptonshire Council’s Executive Member for Highways, Travel and Assets, said: “This proposed change reflects the comments and concerns we have received about the safety of this particular stretch of road for pedestrians. If the TRO is altered as proposed, there would be a decrease in the number of vehicles using George Street and we’d see a significant improvement to accessibility and safety between the retail area and leisure quarter of Corby.
Anyone wishing to make a comment or object can follow the links on the TRO consultation page on the North Northamptonshire Council website.
