The bar plans, in a residential area of Tottington, Bury, were met with a wave of protest
Plans to convert a former beauty salon into a wine bar have been thrown out after more than 70 neighbours objected. Bury Council has rejected proposals for a new bar on Church Street, Tottington saying that opening a wine bar at the building would be ‘seriously detrimental’ to nearby residents, that there wasn’t adequate parking and the plans were ‘unclear and contain insufficient information’.
The bar conversion was intended for the former Aura Tree salon with a bar area at the front of the building. The application said if the conversion went ahead it would create one full-time and four part time jobs. The planned opening hours for the venue were until 11pm Sunday to Thursday and midnight on Friday and Saturday.
A council report into the application said it had received 19 objections and a 52 name petition opposing the change of use for the building. The report, said the objections could be summarised as ‘the area is already congested with traffic and parking problems and the traffic generated by the new use would increase the problems’.

“To the north and south are residential houses. “Opposite is an area of open space with residential properties to the south east. The property has no off-street parking.”
