'Please, I can't breath': Moment innocent man is tackled to the ground by police in middle of park
Dramatic video footage shows the moment a police officer tackled a park-goer before CS spraying him - mistakenly suspecting he had been involved in the theft of a moped.
Police body cam footage seen by the Manchester Evening News shows Montell wearing a motorcycle helmet as he is walking through Alexandra Park in Moss Side. The officer is heard to say: "Get on your knees or you're gonna get dogged." "I've not done nothing officer," Montell is heard to say, as the officer confirms he is 'under arrest for theft' as he handcuffs the suspect.
Separate footage, taken by a bystander on his mobile phone, shows Montell being taken down by the officer, prompting the bystander to shout: "Leave him alone, what is he doing? What has he done? The guy's stopped, what you spraying him up for man?" Montell admitted he had convictions for street robbery and police assault, and had served four months in prison. He said he had mixed with the 'wrong crowd' growing up in Stretford but had turned over a new leaf since 2014.
