Officers are trying to track down Shaun Aver from Bury. The 36-year-old is known to have links to Manchester city centre and north Manchester, police said.
He also has links to Preston and Cumbria. Police shared a mugshot photo of him on the GMP Bury Facebook page as part of an appeal.
