Police watchdogs are investigating
Police were in contact with Marelle Sturrock and her partner David Yates before he killed the mum-to-be and took his own life.
The 35 year-old and her unborn child were killed at their home in Jura Street in the south west of Glasgow before he later took his own life in Mugdock Country Park. His body was discovered in a reservoir on Thursday, April 27. One source close to the investigation told the Sunday Mail the police had “previous contact with the couple” and the PIRC probe will look into “any failure in practice that could have saved Marelle’s life or the lives of others in future”.
A source said: “It is thought to have been pre-planned because David brought the dog to his mum’s house the night before and told her he had plans the next day.Marelle, originally from Wick, moved to Glasgow at the age of 17 with the dream of working in the performing arts. Family members, friends and colleagues have described her as a beautiful, talented, caring woman who loved children and who was excited about the prospect of becoming a mum.
Yesterday floral tributes and stuffed toys were left at the couple’s home while forensic officers worked outside.Neighbours said police had carried out door to door enquiries following the death and had removed CCTV from outside a home nearby.
