The road was closed in both directions
Three people have been taken to hospital after a four-car collision forced the closure of the A46 near Newark. The collision, between Lodge Lane, in Elston, and the A617 for the Cattle Market Roundabout, caused heavy congestion. The northbound carriageway was initially closed before the southbound carriageway was shut to allow an air ambulance to land.
Nottinghamshire Police said the extent of the three people's injuries was not yet known. Inspector Katie Eustace said: “Officers remain at the scene while investigations continue and are working to get the road cleared as quickly as possible. "I want to thank motorists for their patience while we deal with this incident. Anyone with any information or dashcam footage is asked to call 101, quoting incident number 84 of 9 December 2022."A spokesperson for East Midlands Ambulance Service said: “We received a call at 8.00am on 9 December to the A46 Farndon Turn. The caller reported that there had been a road traffic collision.
"The air ambulance was also in attendance. One patient was taken to Queen’s Medical Centre via crewed ambulance and another patient was taken to King’s Mill Hospital via crewed ambulance.”
