Sir Keir Starmer has said if he wanted to be able to study law today, the current economic climate would have 'stopped my dream cold in its tracks'.
Education Secretary Gilligan Keegan has defended the announcement of 15 new free schools as being just a small part of a much larger programme.
Ms Keegan said:"What we've been doing since 2010 actually is trying to build up our school standards and that's been successful by and large and we've got 650 free schools and obviously a lot of multi-academy trusts and that's been a big change under this government."So we think it's a very successful programme, and it's a very innovative approach to education as well, it's very flexible.
A key plank of the Act is the Rwanda scheme, where those who arrive illegally will be deported to the east African nation in what the government hopes will act as a deterrent to those coming to the UK in small boats. Now, the IPPR claims that - even if the Supreme Court deems the £120m deal lawful - deportations are likely to be on such a small scale that arrivals will still outpace the number of people who are removed.
The plans form part of the department of education's newly announced 15 new free schools, which will benefit 12,000 young people in education"cold spots". Education Secretary Gillian Keegan said:"Free schools bring high standards, more choice for parents and strong links to industry - and all in the areas where those opportunities are needed most."Sir Keir Starmer has said that if he wanted to be able to study law today, the economic climate would have"stopped my dream cold in its tracks".
Labour said it had found small print in the Bank of England's latest Monetary Policy Report which shows economic growth is"expected to be weaker throughout much of the forecast period, particularly during 2024 and at the beginning of 2025."Half of renters 'are only one paycheque away' from potentially losing their home, says housing charity
