Pressure builds on Chichester University over threat to axe Black professor Students rally to save Hakim Adi, Britain's only professor of African history by richardsudan
demanding that a popular university African History studies course be reinstated has amassed more than 7,000 signatures in the past week., Britain’s first professor of African history, who is threatened with the axe.A.S. Francis, a PhD History student at the University of Chichester, said he only went to the higher education institution because of Professor Adi.
“It’s worth mentioning that if Chichester moves forward with plans to axe Professor Adi’s post, myself and 11 other PhD students will be left without a qualified supervisor.” “I’m appalled by their actions, and can no longer consider myself proud to be associated with the university as a student.” Prominent author and historian David Olusoga also took to Twitter to share the petition and express his support for Adi and his course of study.
Meserette Kentake, a current MRes student, who had decades of accumulated knowledge on African history before embarking on Professor Adi’s popular course, reiterated the uniqueness and effectiveness of the MRes course at Chichester.
