When We Don't Give A Fork landed five years ago, it prided itself on serving 'the best burgers the city has ever seen'

When We Don't Give A Fork landed in 2017, the eatery prided itself on serving "the best burgers Preston has ever seen".

Preston's food scene has been a success story, growing seemingly overnight. Today, the likes of Miller Arcade act more as a food court than a retail hotspot. And it seems the high street attracts more diners than shoppers. While We Don't Give a Fork, on Guildhall Street, prided itself on serving some of the best food in the city, it was announced doors would be closing on March 24. Bosses said: "It's with a really sad face that we announce that this is our last weekend in business. We've had some amazing times over the past six or seven years and want to thank each and every person who's been part of our journey.

The burger bar is now nearing its three-year milestone and Michael says he has to pinch himself at times due to the extent of his success. However the immense pressures in today's society is the main reason behind Michael's advice to hopeful business start ups, 'don't bother'. Smashed Preston is a welcome success story coming out the other side of hardship. Aside from the independent businesses, the city has seen a smattering of chains in the form of brands like O'Hanne's burger and Boo Burger. While Church Street is predominantly the home of takeaways, 6Burgerz, a takeaway dedicated to gourmet burgers, seemed to sneak its way in too.

Ishmael said: “We believe Cheapside is the perfect location for serving burger fans and foodies alike, who want great food on demand. Whether you’re craving a burger and shake late at night or a fast, fresh and tasty breakfast in the morning, we’ve got you covered." "The other burger places are kind of more dine in and sit down, whereas ours is very much a takeaway, which suits a younger demographic, all the way to families." The shop is laid out in a simple way, with self-service screens for people to be able to walk in and order their own burger, ideal for students on those on their lunch breaks that want quick and reliable service.
