Residents have been crying out for help for months
Work is under way in a Preston village to install new traffic-calming measures paid for by developers who have built houses in the area.
As part of the highway scheme, the maximum speed through the village itself – on Woodplumpton Road – will be reduced from 30 to 20mph. The limit on the approach to that lower-speed zone will also be cut from 60mph to 30mph in order to encourage a more gradual slowdown of vehicles before they reach the village.Matthew Greaves, chair of Woodplumpton Parish Council, said that a car had once been clocked doing 68mph along Woodplumpton Road.
Whittle Hill will also be closed off at its junction with Newsham Hall Lane in order to stop the narrow, footpath-free route being used as a shortcut. That move received one objection following a public consultation, while other elements of the project were opposed by a further three people. “We look at it that we have already saved the taxpayer £250,000 because [the funding for the work] is private money.”
