Princess Diana's 'revenge dress' showed she 'no longer allowed herself to be constrained by expectations'
Netflix's The Crown is getting underway with filming the fifth series of the hit show and fans are going crazy at new behind-the-scene pictures from filming.
The £900 form-fitting black cocktail dress by Christina Stambolian has gone down in history as one of the most memorable Royal moments of all time.According to Design Bundles, fans quickly rushed to the internet to search for the original outfit which sparked a huge spike of 400 per cent. The spokesperson went on to say how: "Everything about the outfit, from its daring, low-cut neckline and off-the-shoulder style, to the fact that she accessorised it with a pearl choker she had redesigned from a brooch the Queen Mother gave her on her wedding day, speaks of a newfound power, and a desire to control the direction of her life."
As previously said, Diana chose to wear this daring outfit on the evening that Prince Charles admitted to having an affair, which explains as to why the dress became known as the 'revenge dress'. "While the dress was indeed about defiance and empowerment – Diana coined an entirely new trend of ‘revenge dressing’ with the Christina Stambolian piece – it was also a celebration of a woman who found her freedom."
