Covid is spreading across Scotland with case numbers increasing across the country thanks to mutated strains as we head into the colder months.
A new variant is now spreading, with the strain now "in most regions of the UK", according to health chiefs. Pirola is a highly mutated strain, with more than 30 mutations, making it difficult for experts to analyse as the World Health Organisation keeps tabs on its spread.
With Pirola fast becoming the most dominant strain in the UK - with positive cases doubling almost every few week - a close eye is being kept on the situation across Scotland. How many cases of Covid are there in Scotland? According to Public Health Scotland, there were 1120 new cases of Covid recorded in Scotland in the week ending September 24. The average number of new Covid cases recorded in Scotland was 160. However, these figures do not represent the actual number of cases in Scotland as many are not recorded due to the lack of community and free testing.
Lateral flow testing is no longer free, with the tests available to purchase at pharmacies online and in store.
