Thousands of protesters have taken to the streets in Israel after its parliament signed off a key part of Benjamin Netanyahu’s planned judicial overhaul, with the Prime Minister accused of pushing the country toward authoritarian rule

Mr Netanyahu’s governing coalition of right-wing and religious parties approved the amendment in a 64-to-0 vote on Monday. If the law comes into force, “it creates a real crisis within society”, which “invites corruption, it invites bad governance. It invites lack of accountability”, he added.
