Peter Bosz rued “Murphy’s Law” kicking in at Ibrox but the PSV is confident things won’t go wrong for his side in the second leg.
Rangers head to Eindhoven next week after a 2-2 draw in the first leg of their Champions League playoff showdown with the Dutch giants - just as they did a year ago before dumping them out on their own patch to secure a group stage spot. Michael Beale’s team led twice thanks to goals from Adballah Sima and Rabbi Matondo, but they were pegged back both times through Ibrahim Sangare and skipper Luuk De Jong.
Sima produced a brilliant finish on the stroke of half-time to open the scoring, but it came from a bad error by Sangare. Bosz admitted that he had asked the Ivorian’s teammates to make up for it, but Sanagre took it upon himself and did so with the equaliser, scoring at Ibrox again after netting in last season’s first leg. Bosz had to contend with both of his centre backs - Oliver Boscagli and Andre Ramalho being forced off with injuries.
"I told the boys that we played well and that we fell behind because of a huge mistake,” he said. “Ibi made that mistake, but normally he is very stable. I said we had to make up for him too. Then it's nice that he does that himself. It was a bit of Murphy's Law, the two centre-backs off at the same time... I don't think it's serious. It is no secret that we want to sign another central defender. Why that takes so long? Because we want the right player.
"I'm not going to think about it going wrong again. I'm never afraid of anything, that's not a good thought either. We always score, you saw that again today. And it is not the case that Rangers have had many opportunities”
