'I hope it stays open. I really do'
The Platform music venue in Morecambe is expected to face funding change next year, linked to planned budget cuts at Lancaster council.
And the new Eden Project Morecambe is proposed for the area , which is expected to support music in Morecambe. Currently, the entertainment programme at The Platform is running as normal. Changes are proposed for next year. Lancaster City Council is holding talks with various parties about potential options for the future. These include the Promenade Concert Orchestra, which plays at The Platform regularly and is led by conductor Howard Rogerson.
"The Promenade Orchestra is the kind of thing I like to see. I like orchestral music and bits of jazz. But I prefer orchestral music. "A number of my neighbours who live a few doors away often come to The Platform too. They like to see orchestras and brass bands - anything to do with instrumental music."
Kyle Riley, aged 27, who works in the hotel industry, said Morecambe night-life was important. He said: "I haven't been to a gig at The Platform myself but I know it draws-in quite wide audiences with different tastes. Morecambe has one or two nightclubs for younger people. There's a good place for drum-and-bass in the town, which gets packed. There's another place, Palatine, which has live music - mainly guitar, country and acoustic bands. And another place is called Nowhere.
Pam said: "The Eden Project is coming to Morecambe. That's very exciting and will help regenerate Morecambe. The town has longed for this kind of thing for many years. But I think Morecambe also needs a few more shops, a few more things for families and a premier restaurant. There's also the old Frontierland theme park site which has been shut for a long time. Morecambe needs a bit more for young people.
