Any attempt to oust Putin was more likely to be an internal coup or assassination rather than a military coup, ex-British Army commander Colonel Richard Kemp believes
The fate of Prigozhin had “probably deterred” anyone else from attempting to overthrow Mr Putin, according to Col Kemp.
“I couldn’t name any individuals who could replace Prigozhin as a significant threat to Putin. But of course within the elites in Russia there are people who are not satisfied with Putin for one reason or another. Orysia Lutseych, head of the Ukraine Forum at Chatham House said: “It remains to be seen if Prigozhin’s supporters just swallow a bitter pill or further grow their ranks.”
“While perhaps dented by the rebellion, he remains highly powerful and the authorities have taken measures to fragment Wagner, as well as setting up other PMCs loyal to the Kremlin to offset the potential for further unrest.”
