On Monday, Ukraine said that its forces had recaptured seven Russian-held villages spanning 90 square kilometres along the southeast of the region. “This is a massive counteroffensive, using strategic reserves that were prepared for this task,” Mr Putin said. He added that Ukraine lost 160 tanks, in comparison to Russia’s 54, which could be “subject to restoration and repair”.
