Queen to carry out first public royal engagement today since Prince Philip's death
The Queen is set to carry out her first major public royal engagement at Westminster in London today, 11 May, since her husband Prince Philip's death last month. The 95 year old monarch will be attending the State Opening of Parliament, where she will be joined by her son Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall.
The State Opening of Parliament typically begins with the Queen's Speech, which lists the Government's legislative plans. She is holding onto another young girl and pulling her from behind, to simulate saving someone from drowning. The Queen, who recently opened her Sandringham Estate home to the public for an open air cinema event, paused and said: “12 or 14… It’s a very long time ago I’m afraid,” before smiling widely.
