Lincoln braces for rival demonstrations over the future of RAF Scampton
Competing RAF Scampton protests are preparing to march through Lincoln, with far-right and anti-fascist factions set to rally in the city centre on Saturday, July 8 to make their voices heard. Both groups oppose the government's plans to house up to 2,000 asylum seekers at the former home of the Dambusters, but have radically different views on asylum seekers.
Saad Gomaa, 33, of County Hotel, is charged with allegedly sexually assaulting a woman shortly on June 9, and will appear in court later this month.Despite the fact that hundreds of asylum seekers have been residing in the town for over a year without incident, the group is highlighting this isolated event to further their agenda.
On the other side of the picket, the pro-immigrant rally from a trade union group looks to"keep Lincoln Nazi-free" and has taken aim at the rival group's poster boy Alek Yerbury. "The government's dispersal plans and its 'Illegal Migration Bill' are all about scapegoating refugees. These policies are part of an attempt to divide and rule us. But refugees are not to blame for the cost of living crisis.
