Man United are set for new investment with the billionaire expected to buy a 25 per cent share.
Part investment from Sir Jim Ratcliffe might not be considered a false dawn as such for Manchester United and their dedicated supporters. However, after spending almost a year dreaming about a fully-fledged takeover and to wave goodbye to the Glazer family, there is work to do for the INEOS founder to win people over.
Eleven months after the Americans announced a 'strategic review' to their ownership, there has, at long last, been a concrete development for supporters to salvage. However, as underwhelming as a part takeover might be at first viewing, Ratcliffe cannot use 'dumb money' to win any dissenters over - and he knows it.
Supporters will be hoping Sir Jim is similarly ruthless as and when he steps into the boardroom. However, he must resist any temptation he has to needlessly splash the cash too early.
