It was a busy shift for the referee as Renfrew beat Ashfield 3-1 at New Western Park.
Renfrew manager Jimmy Quigley praised his players for staying cool in their heated clash with Ashfield – which saw an incredible five red cards dished out to the visiting team.
Ashfield pulled one back before David Leadbetter was the first culprit sent for an early bath after picking up two yellow cards in three minutes. The cards continued to flow in the second half, with Ashfield’s Docherty ordered off for abusing the referee. He was soon joined by team-mate Lance Pearce and two members of the Ashfield coaching staff.
“Joe is only 17 and he’s been excellent for us so far. He was gutted afterwards but I’m sure he’ll learn from it.“Even when we were down to 10 men we pressed very hard and we’d asked for that increase in aggression and desire throughout the week.
