Nottinghamshire is one of the areas of the UK with the fastest growing number of reported dog attacks. ITV News, which has submitted Freedom of Information requests to all police forces in England, found attacks in the county had risen by 31 percent compared to 2022.
The areas with the highest rises were Gloucestershire at 62 percent, Cambridgeshire at 52 percent, Lancashire at 47 percent, Bedfordshire at 40 percent and Nottinghamshire at 31 percent. This comes after the Prime Minister promised to ban the XL Bully breed by the end of the year, following a spate of deadly attacks.The area hit the most was the West Midlands with a total of 1,244 reported attacks from July 2022 to June 2023.
Other areas hit hard by attacks in 2022/23 are West Yorks , Merseyside , Kent and Greater Manchester . The number of dogs detained under the Dangerous Dogs Act has also gone up by more than 50 percent since July 2021.
