Bracken House was evacuated on December 22 over fire safety concerns

Two months have now passed since hundreds of people were kicked out of their city centre homes due to fire safety concerns.

In the interim, residents have been staying in hotels or serviced apartments, paid for by building managers IPM, which has also forked out for meals. Despite this, one resident has told the Manchester Evening News they are ‘severely stressed’ about the situation. “It's a small room in the hotel,” the resident, who has asked to stay anonymous, said. “I cannot have everything in the room, I have everyday clothes but in case I need other shoes, or when it's cold, I have to go and get a coat.

The MEN understands that their hotel stay has been extended until late April — which would be four months of homelessness for the resident. As of yet, no formal move-in date has been given to residents but a spokesperson confirmed that plans are in place to begin the bulk of the necessary work shortly.
