Crews raced to the scene in Burnage and found the car already 'well alight'

Residents heard a 'big explosion' before a car burst into flames in south Manchester on Saturday evening .

Emergency services raced to the scene of the blaze on Lane End Road, near to the junction with Kingsway at around 8.50pm where the vehicle was already found 'well alight'. Crews were reportedly on the scene 'within minutes' according to one local resident who caught the dramatic incident on camera."There was a big bang which made us look outside," they said. "It was like an explosion. Must have been on fire for about 20 mins until the firefighters managed to get it out. The fire engine was there within two minutes."

A spokesperson for the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: “At approximately 8.50pm on Saturday, 27 August, one fire engine from Withington was called to reports of a fire involving a car on Lane End Road, in Manchester “The car was well alight when fire crews arrived at the scene. Firefighters used two hose reels to extinguish the fire and were in attendance for around 90 minutes.”
