People living in the Broadfield Drive area of Leyland were keen to thank officers for their 'professional and reassuring' response after a number of suspicious items were found at an address

Residents caught in a whirlwind as a bomb squad descended upon their quiet corner of Leyland have praised the actions of police.

It resulted in several suspicious items, including chemicals and explosives, being found at an address. A 59-year-old man was arrested under the Explosives Act 1875 with police later revealing the investigation is being led by counter terrorism officers. The 59-year-old has since been released on bailed.

Anthony Holland watched the scene unfolding as he walked his dog Frankie along Broadfield Drive. "I was walking the dog earlier this morning and saw a load of ambulances parked up at Tesco," he said. South Ribble MP Katherine Fletcher was among those who praised Lancashire Police for their actions. She said: “This morning, I was contacted by members of Leyland Police who have executed a warrant on a property in Leyland, and discovered items of such concern that they arrested a gentleman at the property and have put an extensive cordon preventing people for their own safety in the Broadfield Drive area of Leyland.
