Residents' rage over Edenfield housing development plan and 'failed promises'
The timing of the submission of a Masterplan and Design Code by Rossendale Borough Council, at the same time as a full planning application for 238 houses by Taylor Wimpey, has caused anger amongst Edenfield residents and business owners, who are keen to block the huge development.
“The Masterplan is severely lacking, with no real scrutiny of traffic issues, amongst other failings Taylor Wimpey’s Transport Assessment really only deals with the 238 houses on their site, it does not properly take into account the other developments and their cumulative effects on traffic numbers.“They are also making a huge assumption that entry to the Chatterton Hey site can be gained through Exchange Street and Highfield Road.
“With a valid application the Council cannot delay processing the application in order to take into account national holidays or major sporting events. The process is fundamentally driven by the applicant in terms of timing of application. A Taylor Wimpey spokesperson said: “The consultation letters, time period and dates offered for local meetings have been organised by the local authority in line with their statutory duties with no input from Taylor Wimpey. We held our own public consultation for the site over summer and we remain committed to working closely with the local community during this period to ensure they are fully up-to-date with our current proposals for the housing allocation.
