Cash is clearly still king
Many town centres are becoming cash machine 'deserts', some councillors in Pendle have said recently.
"There are 14,000 people in Barnoldswick and three cash machines, which is bad. We need a mix of cash, cards and banks. The bank closures were disgusting. There used to be a few in Barnoldswick. Now, there's none. We go to Skipton if we need a bank. "But there were also some issues for businesses with machine charges. Some machine companies take a percentage of customer payments. or a percentage and a monthly fee. However, there are more options now.
'LOSS OF BANKS HAD an IMPACT BUT TOWN IS IMPROVING' Dennis Leak was born in Preston but later grew up in Barnoldswick. He has also lived in Colne and Salterforth. He worked in civil engineering but is now retired. "I don't carry much cash. I tend to use a card or my telephone. I have an app. You can move money in accounts and use it abroad. I hope to retire in Spain and will use it there.
"I like to have some cash in my purse. Technology is good when it works. But not when things break down.
