The owners of Osteria restaurant on John Street have been ordered to pay a former chef - who they believe to have lost them four days' worth of takings - over £2,000 at a tribunal.
The chef at a Merchant City restaurant who was accused of intimidating staff so severely that the business was forced to close for four days has been awarded over £2,000 in compensation.
The Polish native was working as a chef at the venue from March 2022 until August the same year when his employment was ended days after he allegedly caused the business to lose £10,000 in takings.Company director Mr Minervini told the tribunal that Mr Biernat had been found drunk outside the restaurant smoking a "cannabis cigarette" before going into the kitchen and intimidating staff who then walked out on August 6.
However, the tribunal judge disagreed their version of events instead ruling that the chef had returned on August 10 when the restaurant began trading as normal. It found that he had worked his normal shifts up until August 13 when he reportedly fell ill at work and had to go to hospital.Employment Judge Tinnion ruled that Mr Biernat had worked from March 7 to August 5 with no incident and without taking annual leave. It was also concluded that he was owed wages for eight shifts.
