Accrington Taxidermist fails to find love on First Dates
First Dates Hotel returned to our screens for its seventh series on September 6. The first episode features a Lancashire singleton who embarks on her first date in 39 years.
Sandy continued: "I used to have a contact with the local zoo, so any animal that died at the zoo, they would ring me and I would be able to take it and preserve it. As the pair sit down on for their date, Ray asks if Sandy has any grandchildren, to which she replies: "All my grandchildren have paws." The pair go on to bond over their dogs, with Ray saying whoever he ends up with needs to love animals.
As the date continues Sandy opens up about this being her first date in 39 years, the last one being with her husband. Sandy's husband was also a taxidermist, and they met when her daughter's rabbit died. She said: "It was a strange way to meet him actually. My daughter's rabbit died so I was looking for a taxidermist because I didn't want to bury it, it was too beautiful.
Sandy's husband died 14 years ago. She said: "To lose Jeff was the hardest day of my life. After he died, I couldn't accept it for a long time. When it was time for the funeral, they said, 'the hearse is here,' and I just remember saying 'I don't want to go' because it was too final. It was like that would make it real. But I went and 14 years on and I'm still crying about it.
