💬 “It was traumatic, it was really scary trying to keep the children calm” Lauren Gibson and her kids fled their five-star hotel, walked for 10 miles, and slept on the ground after the fires bore down on their hotel in Rhodes 🖋️ ClaireGilbodyD
Some locals offered them a ride to a beach spot with a bar and toilet where “hundreds” were sitting, waiting for someone to give them directions.
The family set off, trying to find their way in the pitch black night. At the top of a mountain they found a hotel, where they waited for hours but were not allowed to use the toilet. At 2am, a Jet2 bus took them to another hotel. “Let the kids eat first,” people were shouting once the hotel finally opened the kitchen doors, she said.
“We recognise that Ms Gibson has been through an extremely difficult experience, and we are incredibly sorry to hear this,” Jet2 said in a statement. “Our absolute priority is looking after customers and supporting affected customers on the island. We have been contacting customers, including Ms Gibson, and are continuing to do so.
