Police believe the man entered Wigan North Western station then walked down the tracks - they have issued a public appeal to help identify him
Detectives have issued a public appeal to help identify a man who was sadly found dead on train tracks at a railway station. British Transport Police officers believe the man walked down High Street in Wigan then entered the station and walked down the tracks.
BTP detectives, however, said they so far haven't been able to identify the man - and have now issued a full description including of the clothes he was wearing.In a statement on Friday, BTP said: Officers were called to the station at 11.05pm following reports of a casualty on the tracks. Paramedics also attended however sadly a man was pronounced dead at the scene. There are no suspicious circumstances.
The man is described as white with short, shaven dark hair and a trimmed beard. He's believed to be aged in his 30s and was wearing black Nike tracksuit bottoms with red writing and white stripes on the rear calves. He was also wearing a black North Face puffer jacket with a white 'Team NFL' ASOS T-shirt, a black baseball cap with 'Hoodrich' embossed onto it and a distinctive black ASOS hoody with the word 'Panthers' on.
Detective Chief Inspector Steve May said: "This is a tragic incident and we have been working tirelessly to try and identify the man so we can inform his loved ones of the sad news.
