. At first, Haire liked Neto better as a pitcher than hitter, too. Shortly after Neto arrived at Campbell, in the fall of 2019, he made several throwing errors in an intra-squad game.Later that fall, Neto required wrist surgery, leaving him initially unable to swing after he returned from Christmas break. He appeared in only three games during the pandemic-shortened 2020 season, making his biggest impression on the mound.
Major-league scouts last season kept pestering Haire to tell them which of his junior stars he preferred, Neto or Harrington. Haire would scoff at the question, saying, “You can’t ask me to choose between two of my sons.”
