The mission has faced several delays owing to its invasion of Ukraine
landing by a matter of days, judging by estimates.Luna-25 is on track to land on the moon on Monday 21 August.
If it is successful it will mark the first domestically produced probe sent to the moon in modern Russian historyon 16 August, the mission appeared to be going to plan and had successfully reached lunar orbit. “All Luna-25 systems are functioning normally; communication with it is stable. Sessions are being taken to measure the current navigational parameters,” it said on Telegram.Luna-25 launched at 2am Moscow time on 11 August aboard a Soyuz-2.1b rocket from the Vostochny Cosmodrome spaceport in Russia’s far east Amur Region.
This is Russia’s first moon mission effort since Luna-24 in 1976, when Russia was part of the Soviet Union.
