A man was arrested

A security guard at a Sainsbury's store in Nottingham was reportedly racially abused and hit with an umbrella. Police were called to the shop in Perry Road, Basford, at approximately 2pm on Sunday, August 20.

The suspect was reported to have racially abused the security guard before hitting him with an umbrella. He left the scene before officers arrived. However, after a description of the suspect was provided, a man walking up Nottingham Road was stopped a few minutes later and arrested on suspicion of racially aggravated assault. He was taken into custody for questioning and later bailed pending further enquiries.Inspector Liz Gaskin, who leads the City Central neighbourhood team, said: “This was excellent work by officers on the ground, who managed to track down and detain a suspect within minutes of the incident.

“Nottinghamshire Police takes offences like this extremely seriously. There is no place in our society for racial abuse. It is a crime and we would always encourage victims to come forward and tell us about it.”
