Former Great British Bake Off host Sandi Toksvig says LGBTQ+ people are suffering under the Church of England because of their stance on same-sex relations.

Sandi, who has been in a civil partnership with Debbie Toksvig since 2007 and who were married in 2014, wrote to the Archbishop, Justin Welby, hoping to persuade him that he had ‘made a horrible mistake’ as she shared her own experience and that of others in the LGBT+ community.

‘Each and every one of those threats has come from an evangelical Christian. Inevitably they have wanted to kill me on God’s behalf because although he may be omnipotent apparently he’s also very busy.’ ‘But every time somebody condemns you, somebody somewhere in the LGBTQ+ community gets hurt. And I cannot sit by and let that happen.’

The Archbishop has argued that he is trying to keep the Anglican church together even as some conservative bishops abroad threaten to remove their churches if there continues to be a path toward marriage equality.supports HTML5 video
