“Everybody is under this assumption that this was an NIL deal for him to come to the University of Texas. It was absolutely not,” said Sarkisian, who addressed Manning’s recruiting while speaking at a Houston Touchdown Club luncheon.
Everything about Arch Manning’s recruiting process was deliberate and carefully managed by his parents and family members — Cooper said he wanted an old-school recruiting experience for his son — so the fact that NIL did not play a role in that process shouldn’t come as a surprise. Because his last name is football royalty, he would have been able to accrue major NIL deals wherever he wound up and will still have that opportunity whenever he decides the time is right.
