Saving for a house deposit in these 29 places in Scotland will take you this long
A new study by Cala Homes has looked at the median weekly salary in over 130 UK towns and cities and worked out how long it would take a single person to save for a 10 per cent deposit for the median house price in the same area. The data was based on a person saving just 10 per cent of their salary, to account for bills, rising costs and other outgoings.
The study found that out of the Scottish locations analysed, Aberdeen offered the shortest time, two years and 182 days, to save for a 10 per cent deposit of the median detached house price of £79,720. And in third, East Renfrewshire, with a very respectable weekly median salary of £800, it would take someone just under four years to save 10 per cent of their salary to get the deposit needed for the £166,020 median house price in this area.
