Neil McLaughlin was taken to hospital on November 21 last year with ‘typical symptoms’ and had to be intubated for 167 days.
On Friday, hundreds of staff including nurses gathered at a distance in the reception area of the hospital and balconies as the patient was finally allowed home, accompanied by his partner Wendy Busby.He said: “It’s very humbling, it’s fair to say a lot of the staff clapping I’ve never met before but because I’ve been in hospital so long everybody gets to know your story.
