David Richardson and his wife Gillian, both 60, arrived at Faro Airport at 6pm on Monday to discover their easyJet flight to Glasgow had been cancelled.
A Scots couple have been left stranded in Portugal for five days after technical issues sparked travel chaos yesterday.
However, they say easyJet left them 'high and dry' with no floor staff at the airport and no way of contacting the company for further information. Due to the chaos David, who works as a business analyst for Natwest, has had to use up four extra days of his annual leave while semi-retired teacher Gillian missed two days of work that she won't be paid for.
"We are stuck here in a foreign country with no one at all able to help us and the language barrier is proving very difficult. It made us feel vulnerable. It's been an absolute s**tshow."
