Donna Chisholm says the treatment would cost £31,000 and transform her life.
A mum who lost her nose to an aggressive cancer has been denied funding for a new treatment in France because of Brexit.
Donna, who wears a prosthetic nose to go to work but is extremely self-conscious in social situations, was devastated to receive a letter by email yesterday morning dashing her hopes. The letter, sent to Donna’s GP by the Extra Contractual Referrals team of NHS Borders, says: “Previously, your request would have been considered under the EU Directive; however, this is no longer applicable for UK residents since the finalisation of Brexit.
She said: “I have a letter dated December 11, 2019, confirming a 10-month history of nasal pain and other symptoms before confirmation of cancer. “I had to keep phoning and an appointment was finally offered for the weekend of my 50th birthday in October when we had booked a trip. “I will have to see whether I have any right to appeal or consider trying to raise the money through crowd-funding but it’s hard to ask for help when so many people are struggling for all sorts of reasons at this time.”
