SUNDAY MAIL EXCLUSIVE: Grandfather Joe Henry followed diversion signs for several miles unaware it was taking him into the prohibited area of Glasgow
A driver caught in a Low Emission Zone has refused to pay the fine, claiming he was forced into it by a motorway closure.
The retired lorry driver now plans a further appeal and legal action to contest the fixed penalty notice from Glasgow City Council, which he has so far refused to pay. “The whole LEZ thing is badly thought out and really does need to be challenged in the courts. There is no way they are getting money off me.”
He then discovered a road at nearby Glasgow Green, which would have taken him away from the zone, was also blocked off. In his efforts to further avoid the LEZ, he took a left turn into the Saltmarket area – away from the city centre – eventually joining the M8 on the south side to get him home.
