'Isle' be there for you - local health heroes nominated for national award
Aptly taking place in the same year the NHS is marking its 75th anniversary, the awards are celebrating the dedication of the selfless heroes in the health and social care services.
A finalist for the Global Citizenship Award, the consultant ophthalmologist with NHS Fife has been nominated for leading the Arclight Project. The device can be used for diagnosing causes of blindness including cataracts, corneal infections, retinoblastoma, diabetic retinopathy and glaucoma. “It’s gratifying to be recognised in the Health Awards, and if it brings our work more interest and support that can only be a good thing.”
They cover the island in nine teams 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, looking after the needs of the 5,000 people who live on Arran, with the population rising to 25,000 with summer visitors. “I’m humbled and grateful to be nominated for the Health Awards. It’s always nice when people say thank you.”Euan, 32, who works for East Ayrshire Council, was nominated for Support Worker of the Year for the way he empowers and supports people at their lowest ebb.
