While the result will not become official until a court ruling, it is understood Mr Reilly has held onto his seat
SDLP councillor Martin Reilly has retained his seat on the Derry City and Strabane District council by around 10 votes following a recount, it is understood.
Counting got underway again at the Foyle Arena on Wednesday morning and, while the result will not become official until a court ruling, it is understood Mr Reilly has held onto his seat.Philip McKinney's election agent, veteran Derry Alliance member Colm Cavanagh, offered his congratulations to Martin Reilly.
"I would congratulate Martin Reilly for holding the seat - he is a good councillor and obviously well respected by the people of the Waterside. He added: "Very early after the count was announced it was clear that an error had been made. The SDLP - and me, as a candidate - were very clear we wanted to get the valid result, allowing those people who voted on the 18th of May to have their say as to who their councillors were.
