Rare says it has heard the feedback about long matchmaking times in Sea of Thieves, outlining plans to improve the issue.
kicked off last month, and Rare has now responded to player feedback about long matchmaking times in Battle for the Sea of Thieves, and outlined how this will be improved with updates set to arrive in early 2023.
"We have heard the feedback from the Sea of Thieves community that the matchmaking queue times to get into the Battle for the Sea of Thieves can be long,"."We appreciate that people are eager to make progress in each Faction and earn the two unique Curses that Season Eight offers. This is an area we knew we’d need to monitor and improve even ahead of launching the content update.
The team first explains why matchmaking times have been long, listing reasons such as an imbalance of players in different Factions, the option for Xbox players to only be matched with other players using a controller, and low population regions such as Japan, before going on to confirm that skill-based matchmaking is not a contributing factor.
To fix these issues, Rare says it is working on solutions such as enabling battles between players in the same Faction; enemy Factions will still be"prioritised," but if a match against an enemy crew can't be found, the search will start looking for a battle against players in the same Faction. You'll still be able to earn things like Allegiance and Hourglass Value.
"With the additions described above, we feel our matchmaking times will see definite improvements and greater overall consistency. The team are actively working on these updates, and we hope to deliver them to players in early 2023," the devs conclude. Have you been having issues with Sea of Thieves' matchmaking times? What do you think of these changes? Let us know in the comments!
